The Master Delivery Dry Run

Prepare and validate your final master for distribution.

This 3-day challenge guides you through creating and testing your final master file to ensure it's technically sound and emotionally resonant before you upload it to your distributor.

The plan, day by day

1. Day 1Export your final mix as a 24-bit WAV file. Using a reputable AI mastering service from the 'AI for Musicians' guide, generate two distinct masters: one aiming for a more dynamic -14 LUFS target, and one for a louder -11 LUFS target.
2. Day 2Audition both masters on your phone speaker, in your car, and with quality headphones. Does the louder master introduce distortion? Does the dynamic master feel impactful enough? Choose the version that best preserves the song's intended Emotional Resonance.
3. Day 3Using a LUFS meter plugin, confirm your chosen master's integrated loudness and that its true peak is at or below -1.0 dBTP. This file is now your official delivery master. Label it clearly (e.g., 'ARTIST_SONGTITLE_MASTER_2448.wav') and store it in your asset library.
