The Strategic Release Clause Draft

Architect the momentum your career requires.

This 3-day exercise challenges you to draft an ideal 'Release Commitment' clause for a hypothetical contract. You will define a release schedule that supports your growth and protects your creative control, turning a vague promise into a bankable term.

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1Map out your ideal release schedule for the next 18 months (e.g., 5 singles and 1 EP). In a paragraph, justify why this specific cadence is essential for your audience growth strategy.
  2. Day 2Use an AI writing assistant to help you draft a contract clause. Specify: 1) The minimum release schedule from Day 1. 2) A minimum marketing budget per release. 3) A 30-day window for label feedback/approval on a submitted master.
  3. Day 3Review your drafted clause. Does it protect your ability to drop a spontaneous, emotionally urgent track (e.g., a timely acoustic version) without months of red tape? Add a sub-clause allowing for one 'flexible release' per year with an expedited approval process.
