The Strategic Songwriting Brief

Write with intention. Create an asset, not just a song.

This 3-day challenge guides you in translating your one-page business plan into a concrete creative brief for your next song, ensuring it serves a strategic purpose in your career.

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1From your one-page business plan, extract your artistic mission statement and target audience profile. Write a one-paragraph 'Creative Mandate' that summarizes the emotional and sonic world your music inhabits.
  2. Day 2Create a 'Song Brief' for a specific, business-oriented goal. Example: 'A 120bpm upbeat, optimistic indie-pop track with a wordless vocal hook for a tech commercial.' Define the tempo, mood, and lyrical theme.
  3. Day 3Outline a song based on your brief. Write the chord progression, a placeholder lyrical hook for the chorus, and map out the verse-chorus-bridge structure. Begin writing with strategic intent.
