The Royalty Readiness Audit
Audit one of your songs to ensure it is correctly registered for royalty collection.
In this 5-day challenge, you will walk through the essential steps of registering a single song with the correct entities, ensuring it is prepared to earn every dollar it generates.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1Confirm your affiliation with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO). If you are not yet a member of ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, or your territory's equivalent, begin the application process.
- Day 2Choose one of your released songs. Log in to your PRO portal and verify that the song is registered with the correct writers and split percentages. Do the same with The MLC if you are in the U.S.
- Day 3Use an AI metadata tool or a simple text editor to generate a list of 15-20 descriptive tags for your song (mood, tempo, instrumentation, lyrical themes, use cases).
- Day 4Pressure-test the song's emotional pitch. Write a single, compelling sentence that describes the core feeling it evokes, as if you were pitching it for a lucrative sync placement.
- Day 5Consolidate all essential data for this one song—split sheet, ISRC, ISWC, PRO and MLC registration numbers, and metadata tags—into a single master document in your business records.
