This challenge walks you through a five-day audit of one of your released songs, ensuring it is correctly registered to collect all potential royalties.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1Select one of your released songs. Log in to your PRO's member portal and verify that the song is registered with the correct title, writers, and ownership splits.
- Day 2Go to The MLC's public database. Search for the same song to confirm it is in their system and your publisher information is correctly associated with it.
- Day 3Use an AI lyric analysis tool to identify the primary emotions and themes in your song. Generate a list of 5-10 keywords for sync licensing (e.g., 'hopeful,' 'introspective,' 'summer romance').
- Day 4Gut-check your keywords. Play the song for a trusted friend and ask them to describe the feeling in three words. Compare their response to your AI-generated list.
- Day 5Create a simple spreadsheet for your catalog. Add this first song and track its registration status across your PRO and The MLC, along with your new sync keywords.
