The Ownership Audit Challenge

This challenge walks you through the essential administrative steps to formally document and protect the ownership of a single song demo, turning a creative spark into a secure asset.

The plan, day by day

1. Day 1Choose one of your existing, unreleased demos. Create a master folder for it and save the audio file with a clear, dated filename (e.g., 'SONG-TITLE_Demo_YYYY-MM-DD').
2. Day 2Draft and complete a split sheet for the song, detailing all writers and their percentage shares. If you are the sole writer, complete it for yourself. Sign and date it.
3. Day 3Use an AI transcription service (as outlined in the AI for Musicians guide) to generate a lyric sheet and a basic chord chart from your demo audio. Save these in your master folder.
4. Day 4Write a one-sentence 'sync pitch' for the song that describes its core emotion and an ideal scene placement (e.g., 'For a bittersweet moment of quiet reflection in an indie film'). This is your Emotional Resonance test.
5. Day 5Log into your PRO portal (ASCAP, BMI, etc.) and formally register the composition using the information you have gathered.
