The Copyright Valuation Sprint
In three days, turn one of your songs from an abstract creation into a well-defined, priceable asset.
This sprint forces you to confront the business reality of your art. You will audit the ownership of a song, explore its commercial licensing potential, and attach a justifiable value to its copyright.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1Choose one song. Create a 'Split Sheet' document listing all songwriters, their percentage shares, and their PRO affiliation. If you are the sole writer, document this. This is the foundational ownership record.
- Day 2Use an AI tool to generate a 'Sync Mood Board' for your song. Prompt it to create a visual collage and list five keywords (e.g., 'uplifting,' 'wistful,' 'driving') that describe your song's emotional texture. This defines its commercial emotional profile.
- Day 3Research the typical sync fee range for an indie artist in a national TV ad. Based on the emotional power of your song, write a one-paragraph justification for why you would price your song at the mid-to-high end of that range. This connects emotional resonance to a dollar value.
