The Catalog-as-Asset Valuation Sprint
Conduct a high-level business assessment of your most valuable IP: your songs.
This challenge guides you to view your song catalog through the lens of a CEO. You will inventory your assets, analyze their revenue potential, and create a strategic plan to increase their value.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1: The Asset InventoryCreate a 'Catalog Valuation' spreadsheet. List every song you have written. For each, add columns for: 'Your % Share,' 'PRO Registration Status,' and 'Pub Admin Status.'
- Day 2: Identify Your 'Blue Chip' AssetReview your list. Which single song do you believe has the highest potential for sync licensing? Why? Write a one-paragraph justification based on its theme and instrumentation.
- Day 3: AI-Powered Revenue ProjectionTake the last 6 months of streaming royalty data for your top song. Feed this data to an AI chatbot and ask it: 'Based on this historical data, create a simple 3-year revenue projection assuming a 10% annual growth rate.'
- Day 4: The Emotional Resonance PortfolioLook at your catalog again. Create a new column called 'Emotional Core.' For your top 5 songs, write one or two words that define the song's feeling (e.g., 'Defiant Joy,' 'Quiet Heartbreak'). This is your emotional asset map.
- Day 5: The Q3 CEO MemoWrite a one-paragraph memo to yourself titled 'Q3 Catalog Growth Strategy.' Based on your analysis, state the top two actions you will take this quarter to increase the value of your catalog (e.g., 'Pitch [Song Title] for a teen drama sync,' 'Register the 3 un-registered demos').
