The 3-Day Song Ideation Sprint
From blank page to structured idea.
This challenge applies a structured, time-blocked approach to move from a core emotion to a workable song structure in just three days, integrating AI for ideation and a critical check for emotional truth.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1: Emotion & IdeationChoose a single, specific emotion (e.g., 'the quiet relief after a necessary ending'). Use an AI tool (per the 'AI for Musicians' guide) to generate 10 lyrical or narrative concepts based on this feeling. Free-write for 20 minutes on the most compelling one.
- Day 2: Structure & MelodyTake yesterday's free-writing and organize it into a standard song structure (e.g., Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus). Hum melodic ideas over the chorus lyrics, recording them as voice memos.
- Day 3: Resonance CheckRecord a rough voice memo of you singing the verse and chorus. Listen back. Does it accurately capture the core emotion from Day 1? Ask yourself the questions from the 'Emotional Resonance' guide. If not, what needs to change in the lyric or melody?
