The Three-Year Catalog Deep Dive

A 5-day sprint to secure your intellectual property for the long term.

Move beyond release-day metrics and start treating your music like the valuable asset portfolio it is. This challenge will guide you through auditing and optimizing your catalog for long-term growth.

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1Create your Catalog Master Sheet. In a spreadsheet, list every song you have written or co-written. Add columns for: Co-writers, Split %, PRO Registration (Y/N), and Publisher.
  2. Day 2Conduct a Rights Audit. For one song on your list, verify its registration on your PRO's public repertory. Confirm your ownership percentage is correct. If not, begin the process to correct it.
  3. Day 3Enrich with AI. Take the audio file for that same song and upload it to an AI music tagging service. Analyze the suggested genre, mood, and instrument tags. Add the most accurate ones to your Master Sheet for future sync pitching.
  4. Day 4Perform an Emotional Resonance check. Listen to three of your oldest songs. Which one still feels potent? Mark this song on your Master Sheet as a 'Primary Sync Target'—its emotional durability is its value.
  5. Day 5Set a Long-Term Goal. Based on your catalog's current state, write a single, achievable goal for your publishing business for the next 12 months (e.g., 'Register my 5 un-registered back-catalog songs,' or 'Secure a publishing administrator').
