The Registrable Song
Create and document a new song with its future registration in mind.
This 5-day challenge guides you through the process of writing a new song while simultaneously creating the documentation needed for professional registration, treating the creative and administrative processes as one.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1Begin writing a new song centered on a single, powerful emotional concept. Document your starting time and initial lyrical and melodic ideas in a dated digital file.
- Day 2Using an AI writing assistant, generate five alternative titles for your song. Analyze which title most accurately captures the song's emotional core.
- Day 3Record a simple, clear worktape (e.g., voice and piano/guitar). Name the file with the date and title. This is your proof of melody and composition.
- Day 4Draft a formal split sheet. Even if you are the sole writer, fill it out completely, assigning 100% of the writer and publisher shares to yourself. This builds the habit.
- Day 5Gut-check the work. Write a one-paragraph 'sync treatment' describing the song's emotional arc and ideal scene placement. Does the song's emotional resonance feel clear and potent enough to pitch?
