The Metadata Audit

Assemble the bulletproof 'rights and data' section of your pitch.

In this 5-day challenge, you will conduct a full audit of one song's metadata, ensuring it is complete, accurate, and ready for any professional pitch.

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1Locate and verify your song's ISRC code. If the song is unreleased, confirm how to generate one with your chosen distributor. List it.
  2. Day 2List all credited songwriters and their publishers. Confirm their respective ownership splits for the composition. Confirm each writer's PRO affiliation (e.g., ASCAP, BMI, SESAC).
  3. Day 3Use an AI writing tool to draft a clear, concise clause for your pitch. It should state whether the track is 'one-stop' or provide clear contact info for both master and publishing clearance.
  4. Day 4Pressure-test your document. Put your creative copy next to your metadata block. Does the entire package feel cohesive? Does the professionalism of the data support the claim of your song's Emotional Resonance?
  5. Day 5Compile all audited information into a clean, formatted text block. This is your standardized 'Rights Information' module, ready to be deployed in your master pitch template.
