Craft a commercially viable song from concept to demo in five days.
This challenge guides you through the process of creating a new song, focusing on the core elements that give it commercial and emotional value. You will write, refine, and pressure-test an idea to prepare it for monetization.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1Define your song's core. Write a single sentence describing its central theme and intended emotion. Then, write a first draft of the verse and chorus.
- 2Use an AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT, Sudowrite) to brainstorm three alternative lyrical metaphors for your chorus. Integrate the strongest one or use them as inspiration for a rewrite.
- 3Pressure-test for emotional resonance. Record a rough voice memo of your song idea. Play it for three trusted peers and ask them one question: 'What specific feeling does this give you?' Do not lead them. Note their answers.
- 4Refine the song based on your feedback. Focus on clarifying the emotional message. Record a clean, simple demo with just your voice and one instrument.
- 5Write a one-paragraph 'pitch' for your song, not for a playlist, but for a potential collaborator. Explain its musical and emotional strengths. This solidifies its identity as an asset.
