Deconstruct Your Song

Build the core creative component of your one-page pitch.

This 5-day challenge guides you through analyzing your own song to extract the key descriptive elements needed for a powerful, professional pitch.

The plan, day by day

1. Day 1Define the emotional core. Listen to your song and write a one-sentence summary of the primary feeling it is designed to evoke. This is your Emotional Resonance statement.
2. Day 2Use an AI tool (as shown in the Academy's 'AI for Musicians' guide) to generate 20 descriptive keywords for your song's mood, instrumentation, and vocal performance. Select the top five.
3. Day 3Write a 50-word 'blurb' for your song. Incorporate your Emotional Resonance statement and your selected keywords. This is the heart of your pitch.
4. Day 4Identify three RIYL (Recommended If You Like) artists: one contemporary, one legacy, and one unexpected. Justify each choice with a single sentence.
5. Day 5Review and refine. Read your blurb and RIYL list aloud. Does it accurately and compellingly capture your song's essence? Finalize the copy.
