Challenge: The 7-Day Song Deconstruction Sprint

This challenge guides you through deconstructing a single song into its core components and transforming them into a series of short-form videos that highlight your craft.

The plan, day by day

1. Day 1Select one of your songs. Identify and list its 5 most distinct moments: a key lyric, a chord change, a production texture, a drum fill, or a melodic hook.
2. Day 2Write three visual prompts for the key lyric you identified. Use an AI image or video generator (referencing the 'AI for Musicians' guide) to create a short visual clip based on the strongest prompt.
3. Day 3Using a simple video editor, create a 15-second kinetic typography video for the same key lyric. Focus on how the font and motion enhance the words.
4. Day 4Record your screen while you solo and then un-solo a compelling layer in your DAW project for that song. Add simple text explaining what the viewer is hearing.
5. Day 5Share your three created videos with a trusted peer. Ask them one question: 'What specific feeling does this video give you?' Note if their answer matches your song's intention. This is your emotional resonance test.
6. Day 6Based on the feedback, refine the video with the strongest emotional impact. Adjust the timing, colors, or text to heighten the intended feeling.
7. Day 7Develop a simple template based on these formats. Plan how you will apply this 'deconstruction' method to your next release.
