5-Day Sync Writing Sprint

Craft and demo a track built for the screen.

This challenge guides you through the process of writing and recording a simple demo specifically engineered for sync licensing, focusing on emotional clarity and structural versatility.

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1Deconstruct a recent, successful sync placement in a commercial or TV show. Document the song's structure, lyrical theme, and the emotion it conveys in the scene.
  2. Day 2Using an AI assistant, generate three distinct sync briefs for a fictional project. Example prompt: 'Create a sync brief for a technology company's product launch video. The mood should be optimistic and forward-thinking.'
  3. Day 3Choose one brief and write a verse and chorus. Focus on creating a clear, universal message that aligns with the brief's emotional target.
  4. Day 4Pressure-test the emotional resonance of your idea. Play the rough sketch for a trusted peer and ask them to describe the feeling it evokes in three words. Refine based on their feedback, using principles from the 'Emotional Resonance' guide.
  5. Day 5Record a clean, simple demo of the song. Create and export an instrumental version of the demo as well. You now have your core sync assets.
